All hail the harvest queen

I thought I’d start a series where I write about the planets in the signs they currently find themselves in, starting with my personal favorite, Venus.

Right now, Venus is in the sign of Virgo, which is traditionally the sign of her fall. When a planet is in the sign of its fall, it can have a hard time expressing itself in the manner it would prefer.

So what does Venus stand for?

Venus embodies desire, erotic love, the arts and creativity, music, friendships, celebration, reconciliation. She seeks to bring together and create balance and harmony. Her expression is sensual not only in the sexual sense, but in that she seeks to experience the world entirely through the senses and give herself over to enjoyment as often as she can.

Virgo, the sign of Venus’s fall, is ruled by the planet Mercury. Mercury is the sign of the intellect. He likes to analyze and pick apart and think and communicate through words, not touch and surrendering to a sense of playful fun, which is what Venus would prefer.

Since Virgo is a more mental, yet pragmatic sign, Venus here may find it more difficult to let herself go and just give into pleasure. Venus is also the mirror we hold in front of ourselves, and in Virgo that image may tend towards the self-critical.

Virgo’s love for details can slip into the trap of perfectionism. No matter how good you are or how beautiful something is, there is always room for improvement, says Virgo Venus.

At times, she may be picky like Goldilocks or sensitive to a fault, like the princess in the pea.

But Venus in Virgo still has her flair, albeit hers tends towards the minimalist and understated.

In this sign, she very much reminds me of a goddess of the harvest, in a flowing white gown, holding a sheaf of grain in her arms, a modest smile upon her lips.

Venus in Virgo enjoys expressing her creativity in detail-oriented crafts, like weaving or writing. She may have a love of learning and critical thinking and see the beauty of business where others only see dollars and cents.

To end this piece, I do want to add a disclaimer. Virgo in Venus is not just Virgo in Venus. Astrology is a dynamic, complicated art and the planets are constantly in motion. The Venus I describe here becomes more complex when you add in the opposition from Neptune she went through last week. If you have Venus in Virgo in your chart, you will experience her differently if she is, say, conjunct Mercury and sextile the Sun in the first as opposed to square Mars and in opposition to Saturn in the sixth.

She will be in Virgo until October 28.
